THE WEDDING MARCH

Erich von Stroheim wild imagination and unique talent come across strongly in this feature. Despite its upbeat title, this film is really about a society on the edge of disaster, conveying von Stroheim’s personal vision of the world as a complex and cruel place. Fay Wray is wonderful as von Stroheim’s poor girlfriend, whilst comedienne Zasu Pitts plays her rival in a moving and emotional performance as a handicapped princess. The film has been restored following Von Stroheim’s initial wishes, including a beautiful Technicolor scene of the Corpus Christi parade.
