THE CROWD
King Vidor created his masterpiece with The Crowd, directing his focus on the common man and telling a story which, for its time, resonated with a sense of realism hardly experienced before in a film. Much of the film was shot on location in the streets of New York and utilises rhythmic montages to express the dehumanisation of modern life. Carl Davis reproduces the Dixieland sound of 20ies music, again emphasising the feeling of alienation experienced by the main character.
